Kenyan rapper Wyre has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his mother, describing 2024 as one of the most challenging years of his life.
In an interview with Radio Maisha, Wyre shared that his mother had been unwell for a long time, though the family chose to keep her health struggles private.
He also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from friends and family during this difficult period.
“She had suffered for a while, but we were just quiet about it,” Wyre revealed.
Wyre’s mother was laid to rest in October 2024, in a private burial attended by close friends, including Nameless, Wahu, Kris Darling, Mr. Lenny, and Nazizi, who recently lost her son in an accident. On social media, Wyre thanked those who stood by him emotionally and financially, emphasizing how their presence helped him through the tough times.
The rapper explained his decision to keep his family life private, noting that while he lives much of his life in the public eye, his family is his safe haven.
For Wyre, home is where he can shed the superstar image and simply be a husband and father.
How did Wyre Meet his Wife?
Wyre met his wife, Hanifa, in the early 2000s at a talent show at Carnivore. She asked him to sign an autograph for her sister, and they were just part of the audience.
A few weeks later, they met again at another event, where she asked for a second autograph because the first one had been lost.
Wyre was struck by how she wasn’t interested in him because of his music. Instead, he had to chase her, and her genuine nature made him fall in love. She had no idea she would one day become his wife.
Wyre’s career began in the early 2000s as part of Necessary Noize with Nazizi. While the duo eventually pursued solo paths, their friendship has remained intact. Wyre credits music producer Ted Josiah for helping shape his career and cementing his place in Kenya’s music scene.
